2024 FORD F150 [LIGHTNING ].
Granted, the ”Lightning” model nomenclature is somewhat on the nose as regards the electric F-150’s propulsion system. However, it can be argued Ford has indeed captured lightning in a bottle with its first series production electric pickup truck. Moreover, the choice to electrify one of the country’s perennially best-selling model lines was an equally insightful decision.
On the other hand, the electrified F-150 does present a couple of issues that have to be addressed. The first is price. With an as-tested price of a somewhat staggering $97,674, it’s hard to say my Platinum F-150 Lightning 4x4 SuperCrew was anywhere near bargain priced. Hold on though, before that number makes you bounce out of this article, I said “Platinum F-150.” That’s the fully loaded, top of the line version. According to Ford’s website, the basic XLT Lightning starts at (a still not exactly inconsiderable) $62,995.
The second issue that must be considered is the F-150 Lightning’s towing range. For many buyers, this is an essential aspect of a pickup truck’s mission statement. While I can’t attest to this personally. [details on this later]
